Waterfall – abstract

February 22nd, 2012

I stumbled across this image recently. I took it in 2008, during our vacation in the Smoky Mountains. We took a day trip to visit some of the waterfalls of North Carolina. This one is one of few easy to find, as it is located in Pisgah National Forest (see the location on the Google Maps). I still like the abstract feel to the image, and the blue color which makes me feel more calm than sad. I believe it is a Looking Glass waterfall, but dont’t cite me on that, it was three and a half years ago.

Camera & Lens: NIKON D40X 18.0-200.0 mm f/3.5-5.6, Flash did not fire.
Focal length: 80 mm Shutter: 1/80 sec. ISO: 100 Aperture: f/5.3

Wow! Iza, I absolutely love this shot. A lot of people leave the shutter open longer and the waterfall ends up smooth and featureless. Great work here!

I agree with you. I was just starting when I took the image, and little did I knew about the slow shutter speed. And yet it turned out to be slow enough to make it interesting, yet not too slow to preserve some detail. Thanks, Jason.
