Aviation Friday – Fireworks dragon

Do you remember the fireworks image from night air-show I put out on blog last summer? It was also available as downloadable free wallpaper for iPad, iPhone or your desktop, so head there to check it out now.

The spectacular fireworks show was preceded with the night, or more like twilight, airshow. You think: “no fun in that, you cannot see planes when there is dark”. Luckily, there are lights on the plane, and you can also lunch fireworks from the aircraft, in the air. It is really a beautiful show, full on engine noise, music, airplane acrobatics…

The title of the image? When I was working on it, my husband came into the room, and said it reminds him of the dragon. The ubiquitous dragon of Chinese New Year. Well, the celebration is past already, but the theme is very appropriate, as we are now in the Year of the Dragon.

And if you wonder abut the not-so-perfectly regular shape of the light stars- take a look at the exif data for the image below. It was shot with a fisheye lens. Small price to pay for having a certainty that no action will go unnoticed. The wide-angle of the fisheye allowed to fit in the frame the whole trail of the performing airplane.
