Colors according to film

When I started shooting film, I was wondering how to effect color balance in this medium. In digital, you can set the conditions (sunny, cloudy, tungsten etc) or temperature in Kelvin. But how about the film? There is no setting you can dial in on the camera, and the film has to be limited in the conditions it can “handle”. After some reading, it turns out that film actually can handle a lot of different lighting conditions without falsifying color too much, which I personally think comes with a cots of any pictiured being a bit “off”, or as some say, look “film like”.
