Abel Island fly-in

Abel Island is an airpark off the small peninsula on Mississippi River, in an Iowa town of Guttenberg. What puts this particular place on the map is annual fly-in barbeque. What makes me want to go is a chance of seeing a seaplane landing, there always is at least one. They have on the island a 2,600 ft grass runway or a whole lot of the river for planes to land, depending on what you are equipped with. There is some magic in seeing a seaplane land, and this time I was not the only one in awe observing pilot flying around to find the perfect spot and smooth(er) surface to set his Piper PA-22.
