Prairie dogs

One fun aspect of photographing in Badlands was wildlife. In the North-Western part of the park, the whole action happens. First, there are Bighorn Sheep on the rocky slopes of Western overlooks. Then you enter the town of prairie dogs and the bison country. Out of all of those animals, the prairie dogs caused me the most frustration. They turned out to be the most shy animals in the park, and being also small, my 200 mm zoom was not nearly sufficient to return with a satisfying photo. To add to that, as soon as I was spotted and anywhere nearby, they went on alert and “barked” at me. Standing still for up to 15 min did not help, as long as I was there, they did not want to go back to their business. I was defeated by those interesting creatures.
