I was adding some feed to bird feeder, when I noticed this piece of ice below the table on my balcony. I snapped an image with an iPhone, and run some filters in Best Camera (you can check out the recipe here). Are you seeing any animal in that? I saw a fish with its mouth up, or a small critter sitting on its back with paws up.
A few weeks ago, we went to see how the water release is going in winter in Coralville Dam. We were looking for slow shutter speed images, I think, but were not very successful in capturing the power of water. However, the pattern of water made for an interesting image. I took some photos with “big camera”, and some with an iPhone. I decided to post-process the iPhone image. The recipe for the image can be viewed on BestCamera site.
We finally managed to get some snowboarding this season, with weekends being mostly too cold so far. It was a great time off everything, just snow and me. But on the lift and when we were packing the car, I grabbed several shots with my iPhone. This is my favorite. We were taking some snaps of sunset with silhouettes of group of people, and we were happy with the results, when this girl came in the picture.
I am treating my photography seriously for what? Two years now? And for about that long I am just pondering on the idea of shooting what I know the best- my work place. What makes my work place so interesting, is the fact that I work in the lab. Think chemistry. Which sometimes means stink, but most of the time- it means a lot of objects, a lot of glass. Usually in the afternoon, when sun gets to the side of the lab where the sole window is located, it would shine straight on my bench where all the solutions stand in their glass flasks. I have been looking and thinking to photograph it for some time, but this time I finally took out my iPhone and snapped few images. This is my favorite.
I was not using my iPhone camera recently too much. As I mentioned before, the noise in low light situations was driving me nuts, and I was hardy ever outside during the day. Really the first occasion came today, when I went to run some errands and saw those beautiful red berries covered with light snow which came out absolutely unexpectedly in the morning. Those below I was able to photograph nicely with my small camera, but it did not work for the large berries on the trees because of the contrast between them and the sky- for those I went home to grab the big camera, and I will post them on some other occasion.

The convenience of an iPhone. You stop at red light, see an image, take iPhone out, the camera app on and… snap a photo. Like this one- we were going downtown Iowa City for lunch, when I noticed the spiral of smoke coming out of chimneys in power plant. And that the two smokes were of different color. I thought it would be an interesting image, so … I took it
.
One thing I realized taking all those pictures with my iPhone for last several months is that it performs awfully in low light situations. I follow thebestcamera.com feed, and it doesn’t seem to be a deal breaker for all those pictures, but it bothers me nevertheless. Anyway, I decided to post something far less grainy this time, I took this picture one of freezing days this winter, freshly after snow fall. I have been trying to picture the newly arrived winter, an that detail shot did it for me.
Last week, just about time everybody and their mother was doing Christmas shopping, we got ice storm. I just love photographing trees covered with ice. I only took few snaps with iPhone, planning on going out next morning with “big brother” camera, but before I got up, the warmer front came and it all melted.
When you are in a car, not driving, the down time can be used very efficiently sometimes
. I went through my iPhone Camera Roll and all the photo apps I have, looking for… Nothing really. Just passing time. But the effects were stunning in few cases.
The blog image I took last week in New York. Rockefeller Center in the evening presents a lot photographic opportunities, and iPhone did as good job as a “big” camera. I used BestCamera app to “improve the image”, and thanks to BestCamera web page upload, I can even tell what I did
.
